Gin: The Spirit of Westminster

‘History in a Glass’; the gin story crosses continents, oceans and a time period of 300 years, from the gin craze of the 18th century to the 21st century ‘Ginnaissance’. On this walking tour, discover more about gin’s extraordinary heritage: it’s beginning in Whitehall through the gin craze which saturated Westminster’s Georgian slums and the heart of Covent Garden.

We’ll explore it’s rehabilitation courtesy of the Royal Navy and dazzling Victorian gin palaces, whilst hearing how quinine changed the course of London’s history from afar. Gin cocktails crossed the Atlantic in the 20th century to the luxury of the Savoy Hotel and we finish our tour with tales of the Millennium ‘Ginnovation’! A tasting is optional but can be arranged.
