London's Glorious Gardens

This is a virtual highlights tour where we will visit some of London’s classic beloved gardens and parks as well as delving into little known pocket-sized oases of peace and beauty in the middle of this normally bustling city.

We’ll interweave fascinating human stories, explore the garden links to Royalty, religion, medical advances and see some memorials. We’ll reflect on the history and importance to our mental welfare of the precious green spaces in our capital city particularly in times when a global pandemic restricts our freedom to travel.

Our virtual tour travels down the liquid history that is the River Thames with highlights including Chelsea Physic Garden, Westminster Abbey’s hidden gardens and Victoria Embankment Gardens underlain by underground engineering heritage and now home to many significant memorials.

The City gardens highpoints include the greenery around St Paul’s Cathedral; a celebration of post Blitz reconstruction. A secret roof top garden offers the chance to contemplate the wonderful sweeping views. Journey’s end is world heritage site Greenwich Park; at the heart of the Maritime Greenwich World Heritage Site. It’s 600 year history spans ancient civilizations, royal ownership, and scientific advances that cemented Britain’s global power and victory in World War II.
