St Martin’s-in-the Fields celebrates 300 years!

St. Martin-in-the-Fields (St Martin’s) at the corner of Trafalgar Square is a familiar sight to many, but few know it has hidden depths.

Catholic architect James Gibb designed this church in 1726 and ironically, his elegant neo-classical design became the model for Protestant church architecture world-wide particularly in the USA. St Martin’s has produced thriving schools, world-class music ensembles and charitable institutions over the centuries!

From London’s first free lending library, the first religious broadcast and centuries of helping London’s poor, St Martin’s continues to play an integral part in the local community and in the lives of visitors and homeless alike.

The Connection at St Martin’s works with people who are rough sleeping to move away from, and stay off, the streets of London. Their day centre, next to the church, is where they focus on working alongside people as they recover from life on the streets and move towards a meaningful, fulfilling future.
