Literary Mugging!

It's a cold, dark winter night in 1679 and our first poet laureate John Dryden is mugged on his way home from Will's coffeehouse in this narrow alleyway close to Covent Garden. Lazonby Court is now lit by one of 500 remaining gas-lights in Westminster but in those days there were no street-lights or official law enforcers. Although Dryden recovered from his beating, no culprits were found and the case was closed. Today the narrow alley connects hip Floral Street with it's designer shops to the historic Lamb and Flag - now a Fullers pub; it's lovely spot for a drink on a Spring evening.
