Free Coffee Exhibition

"Life in a cup - coffee culture in the Islamic world" is a FREE exhibition at the British Museum until 18 September 2022. Coffee has its roots in Yemen, whose port of Mocha lends it's name to the chocolate and coffee drink. The beverage spread along trade and pilgrimage routes throughout the Arabian Peninsula to the Levant and reached the London in the mid 17C during the tumultuous times of the Civil War.

London's coffeehouses proved popular as meeting places where people with different backgrounds but common interests, met on an equal footing around a cup of coffee. Coffeehouse culture led to the founding of businesses, arts foundations and even charities, come of which are still with us today. If you're interested in following the fascinating and fun history of the coffeehouses do join a "Coffee-fuelled Revolution" walking tour with me to find out more!
