At home with Hogarth
An fabulous artist with a social conscience! William Hogarth's Chiswick home and a collection of his prints is open to the public. It's open Tuesday to Sunday and is FREE to enter. A "hidden gem waiting to be discovered"; it feels like stepping back in time as you leave the busy A4 and enter his garden with the centuries old Mulberry tree at it's heart. Walking up the narrow staircase, I imagined his fingers brushing the same wooden rail as he made his way to bed. There's an aura of living history about this fantastic house - do visit the website to learn more. It's only 10 minutes walk from Chiswick station and you can combine it with a visit to Chiswick House and the gorgeous café in the grounds.
My new talk steps into Georgian London through the art of Hogarth where we hear tales of street life, to leisure and entertainment, war, conflict and political upheaval. All this against a back-drop of the darker side of human nature; enormous wealth generated by slavery, sin and vice.
