The National Portrait Gallery opens its doors again on June 22nd 2023 after a major refurbishment lasting three years. It's a fabulous gallery, that's FREE to visit and can be combined with a trip into the adjoining National Gallery. and/or a walking tour. One of my favourite portraits includes that of suffragette Christabel Pankhurst whose image looks like an Edwardian lady but who in fact fought a brutal campaign to give women the vote. Another fabulous painting is that of the anti-slavery convention held in London in 1840 - the beginnings of an organisation still working to end modern slavery now known as Anti-Slavery International.
